The 2003 Volkswagen Golf GL and Samuel Di Tommaso have created a bond that is inseparable. It's the first car he'd ever owned, which Di Tommaso purchased from his uncle's VW dealership. It was originally purchased on a discount, and after a year of whipping through the streets, he and a group of like-minded friends decided to make a few modifications. Then in 2012, while working on the shaved engine bay, a spark caused the entire VW Golf GL to catch fire. Instead of scraping the car, Di Tommaso decided to strip it down and do a complete makeover. Di Tommaso now describes his emotional connection with his VW Golf GL as "unconditional love."

Shaved engine bay. After the VW Golf GL caught on fire, it became the part that Di Tommaso decided to spend all of his energy on. He spent almost 3 month, 40 hours a week, sitting in the engine bay while he was welding, grinding and painting.
