Eric DeCastro: 2001 Toyota Tacoma S-Runner

During the late 1990s where Hondas reigned supreme, Eric DeCastro wanted something different. "What's more different than a truck in a car scene," he mentions. It was in the back of DeCastro's mind as he was in an Acura himself at the time. In 2001 he saw the ad for the 2001 Toyota Tacoma S-Runner with the TRD 5-piece body kit. "I had to have it," he states, "it was and is a very rare trim." Given the rarity of the vehicle, no dealerships had one in stock when he ordered it. "I had to wait for months for the truck," DeCastro mentions, "so while I waited I bought a TRD supercharger for it." He dropped it off at the dealership for them to install when the truck comes in. He also told them to install the TRD body kit, in addition to a fiberglass tonneau cover.

After DeCastro took ownership of the Tacoma, he took it to a local performance shop to install lowering springs and blocks to lower it 2.5 inches. Fast forward to 2018 and the truck stayed intact and it was hardly driven. "96,000 original miles including a 3,000 mile trip from Virginia Beach to San Diego," he states, "and I began to mod again."
